Currawinga National Park

Heading into The Granites there are lot of these mud mounds. These are the remains of natural springs that used to flow naturally from the artesian basin.

The Granites

The theory is that the granite forming these formations extends all the way down to the the artesian water. The granite forms a block and provides cracks and faults for the water to find its way to the surface.

Nesting budgies Mynina

While not a well used campsite it was right on the water complete with lots nesting budgies.

There was a new toilet block but the swallows had made a mess of it already and the pink streamer to deter them were having little effect. The shower was connected directly to the bore so if you ran it long enough it may become warm.

It has been raining in the desert.

A lot of roads are closed, and within the national park not all areas are accessible. We couldn't go to Boorara shearing shed or do the Werewiki loop drive. We could however go to Lake Numalla.

Lake Numalla

A panorama of the lake. Again it fills with typical western muddy water.

Lake Numalla

Still it was a nice sandy beach and if it was summer I definitely would be going for a swim.

Steam engine - Lake Numalla

Nearly missed this old steam traction engine as we were driving out. I wonder if the broken front axle is the reason it is here?
