Post 270 Tasmania Getting There

Getting There.

The start of our ferry crossing to Tasmania. We are at the wharf in plenty of time to board the Spirit of Tasmania. Drove over the West Gate Bridge, saw some hot air balloons drifting over the city and now the sunrise as we wait in line to board.

Getting here in this era of COVID and interstate boarders with permits required has been an adventure. To get into Victoria we had to "transit" through New South Wales. Residents of New South Wales are not allowed into Victoria without at least a COVID test and associated isolation. We transited in one day - 12.5 hours straight down the Newell Highway so that we didn't have to isolate and can now board the Spirit and enter Tassie.

Casting off the mooring lines.

We waited in line for along time and were tormented by watching a lot of other vehicles leap frog us and board ahead of us. We are however parked two vehicles from the unloading ramp. First off?

Sea Bird -

Sea bird along side the ship.Does this mean we are close to land? Still have to look up what sort of bird.

Tasmania

Almost there. No sea sickness - took some medication. Wasn't rough but not smooth either. Glad we booked a cabin as we both had a kip during the day. Not sure if it was the early start or the Kwells.

Devonport.

The channel markers into Devonport. Time to get our things together ready to head downstairs to the car. Four flights of stairs to test Ann's knees.

Leven Canyon

Not bad for our first free camp in Tasmania. From here there are a couple of walks with views of the Leven River and associated canyon.

From the bridge crossing the river on the bottom of the canyon walk.

It is not the easiest of walks - in fact in Queensland I think it would be too dangerous to be open to everyone - but it is rewarding to get in here.

Devils Elbow as far as I went on the floor walk.

Preston Falls

Only a very short walk from the road the lookout for this waterfall.

Preston Falls

Pretty sure there is no way to clamber down to the bottom.

Guide Falls

I did spend a bit of time in here taking photos. Ann has already posted me behind my tripod on Facebook.

Guide Falls

As well as the water falls we were interested in the crystalline structure of the rock much the same as Mt Scoria near Biloela.

Guide Falls

The water flowing through the moss garden to one side of the main fall.
