Post 500 Streaky Bay.

Eyre Peninsular - Streaky Bay

We made it to the cliffs and southern ocean waves of the Eyre Peninsula.

Point Labott Australian Sea Lions.

While it would have been good to have gotten closer or had a longer lens neither was the case but it was still special to observe these from the viewing platform.

Streaky Bay Jetty

I made the effort to get up and ride my bike to the jetty. I may have been to late for the best light but I am still happy with what I got.

Streaky Bay Jetty

There is a shark proof swimming pool off to one side of the jetty.

Streaky Bay Jetty

While on the jetty a small pod of dolphins swam past. There are couple in this shot and while they are too small in shot to be seen I know they are there.

Murphy's Haystacks

No visit to the Eyre Peninsular would be complete without seeing the haystacks. The legend is that a bus driving past mistook the rock formation for haystacks and as the farm was owned by Murphy they became known as Murphy's Haystacks.

Murphy's Haystacks

The rock formation is still on private property but for a small donation is open to the public.

Murphy's Haystacks

I was pleasantly surprised at how big the formation is. There is more to the site than the classic formations that are always photographed,

Wool Shed cave - Talia Beach

Looking inland along the sea channel to the Wool Shed Cave.

Wool Shed Cave

You are not really on the floor of the cave, more on a sloping ledge. It is worth going in past the entrance to gain a real perspective.

The Tub

The Tub used to be a sea cave that has had its roof collapse.

The Tub

It is still open to the sea.
It is only possible to see this opening if you climb down into the formation. Fortunately we camped near here and I went back in the morning with my drone and flew it down instead.

Using the drone I also captured some nice aerial shots.

These dunes are high up on top of some rocky, already tall cliffs.

Elliston Cliff Drive

The start of another cliff drive outside the small town of Elliston. Looking past the Elliston Jetty to the canola crop on the far clifftop.

Elliston cliff top drive.

This drive has tried to differentiate itself with a series of sculptures some of which I thought were pretty good.

Sheringa Beach Camp

Our preferred campsite at the Sheringa Beach campground tucked in beside the dune. We did try and pay honestly sir. After a bit of driving back and forth to find a spot and then to find enough phone signal the website was down. We stayed anyway.

Other preferred to be a little closer to the beach action.
