Pieman River Ferry

We drove down through the Arthur Pieman conservation area from Arthur River. A very scenic drive that I would highly recommend. (Gravel road with some steep bits that have been sealed)

Waratah

A town with a waterfall in the middle of town.

Waratah

Waratah is an old tin mining town. The water fall used to be surround by stampers and tin processing plants all powered by water wheels and the water fall.

Waratah

Perhaps not ancient but some old mining equipment in town.

Waratah

Still some interesting old building in town.

Waratah

Ann found some platypus in the pond above the falls. The best I could do was this duck family.

Philosopher Falls

Named after the man who discovered the falls while prospecting for tin. His nickname was the philosopher.

The walk to this viewing platform includes 200 plus steps.

Philosopher Falls

Of course goes through some more temperate rainforest.

Philosopher Falls

A different view of the falls. I hope you all appreciate my lugging my tripod up and down those 200 steps.

Philosopher Falls

Some bracken ferns establishing themselves amongst the fallen timber.

Philosopher Falls

Turns out these falls are on the head waters of the Arthur River that were were cruising on a few days ago.

Philosopher Falls

This is a old hand dug water race that used to take water from the top of the falls to the mining town of Magnet to drive ore stamper crushers there.

Cradle Mountain

Our first sighting of Cradle Mountain from a lookout on the way in. Not sure I am impressed by the cloud bank moving in.

Dove Lake

We caught the shuttle bus from the visitors centre to Dove Lake and did the Dove Lake circuit.

Not with the waters of Dove Lake in the foreground but some of the prevalent button grass.

Cradle Mountain

I waded into the cold water to take this shot. Ann may have made some derogatory comments on Facebook. I too am not sure it was worth it but you have to try.

I thought this lake circuit was flat!

Ann might not have enjoyed this section of the track she did really well.

Cradle Mountain - Ronny Creek

The board walk at Ronny Creek is a great place for wombat spotting. I thought that with daylight saving it would be 9 or 10 pm before they came out. These were out quite early in the afternoon at 3:00 pm.
