Kangaroo Island - Murray Lagoon

The Murray Lagoon Campground is a bit of a misnomer, It is not on the banks of the lagoon. The Murray Lagoon is the largest fresh water lagoon on the island. There is a walk not far from the campground that heads through swampy area but once again you don't see the real lagoon.

The timber creek walk has been carved through this impenetrable tea tree scrub.

Finally got my macro lens out and took some small shots.

Kangaroo Island - Sewer Beach

This beach is at the end of the D'Estrees Bay drive. I am not sure I was able to capture the surf and the rocks in the many photos I took - you had to be there.

This Pig Face Weed grows everywhere and is very salt tolerant. It does this by concentrating the salt in its leaves which then turn pink. When the leaf has too much salt and is very red the plant drops it off.

Kangaroo Island - Cape Willoughby Lighthouse

Cape Willoughby Lighthouse marking the entrance to the back passage a risky shortcut between Kangaroo Island and the mainland and up St Vincent Gulf Gulf to Adelaide.

Not the actual lens but a similar display one.

I am pretty sure this back up generator at the base of the lighthouse is no longer required. The light is not longer 240 V but a low voltage LED and while uses mains power the only back up is now a battery.

Post 529 Victor Harbour to Cape Jaffa

Coorong National Park - Murray River Mouth.

The sand dune to the right of Ann is the bank of the mouth of the Murray River - and yes it was raining windy and cold.

Wellington Ferry

The Murray River is much more impressive at Wellington than the mouth. The main road utilises this ferry. The fuel tanker fitted on but we had to wait of the ferry to go over and back.

Cape Jaffa

The weather was still pretty crap when we got to Cape Jaffa or overnight destination.

Cape Jaffa

Cormorants camped out on the end of the jetty. I didn't walk out to the end as there is only a shonky hand rail on one side, the wet timber was slippery and it was very windy.

The beach at Cape Jaffa.

Cape Jaffa

I was looking forward to finding the Cape Jaffa Light House ruins. Turns out the actual light house used to be on a platform out to see. There were three lighthouse keepers. Two lived on the platform for two months while the third stayed on the mainland in one of these houses. So the ruins are the remains of the mainland lighthouse keeper cottages.
