Kangaroo Island -Western River Cove

We enjoyed the drive to get to this cove. Quite steep and winding gravel road.

I don't think this tractor has done some work for awhile.

Kangaroo Island - Western River Cove

There is a small council campground here and a foot bridge across the river to gain access to the beach. The river is running and hence the sea is stained with the tannin from the fresh water.

Kangaroo Island - Cape Borda Lighthouse

So the dark skies did make for a nice shot - but yes we did get wet.

As the light is on some of the largest cliffs on the island it didn't need to be very tall and could be constructed on a square base rather than the more traditional stronger circular design.

Kangaroo Island - Harvey's Return.

We camped at the Harvey's Return campground. Just a short walk from the camp is this cove. The lighthouse was resupplied  from here.

This zebra rock was half way down the steep section of the track.

The creek flowing into the cove.

There must have been some tramway to help with unloading the supplies.

Kangaroo Island - Harvey's Return

The whole area is so lush and green at present it is hard to believe that 2 years ago it was all burnt out. These big trees while looking like they are out of a Dr Zues book have recovered well.

Kangaroo Island - Harvey's Return

I took quite a few photographs down at the landing and hopefully I will get time time to create and album and post it here.

Kangaroo Island - Emu Bay

Again we camped at the council campground. No facilities at all but we did have this view from our site.

The jetty and boat ramp at Emu Bay.

As this blue wren hen was fascinated with the side mirror I was able to get some shot of her.

I wasn't nearly as successful getting a shot of the cock bird.

Are we being watched?

Emu Bay? There are no Emus on Kangaroo Island. There apparently was an emu much smaller than the mainland emu but it is extinct.

Kangaroo Island - Kingscote

This fellow walked across the road in front of us. He then hung around to pose for some photos.

Probably more exciting was this group of seals (sorry I am not sure what breed) right next to the birds.

Kangaroo Island - Kingscote

This fellow just appeared in the water swimming around near the rocks.

He then climbed out to join the others.

But didn't - had a few spars and then disappeared back into the water.
