Post 475 Windorah to Birdsville

Windorah to Birdsville

This is Dion's Lookout.

Getting to this point was not without incident. We had about 10 mm of rain overnight at Windorah and the single lane bitumen out of Windorah was wet. Give on coming trucks the road so they say. Yes we got off the road but then started going sideways and then stopped making forward motion all together 🙁 . While stopped waiting sideways for the truck to go past I slipped it into 4x4. Fingers crossed we managed to reclaim the bitumen. To his credit the truckie did stop and wait for us to slip and spin back up onto the bitumen.

Fortunately the further west we went the less rain had fallen and by the time we got to the gravel road it was almost dry.

We have driven past this art installation before but this is the first time we have stopped.

We did make it too Birdsville. Even though it was early enough we did not succumb and go out and have another crack at big red.

Birdsville

Birdsville twice in the same year?

Birdsville

Last time we were here we bought the children's story book about Onslo the vw beetle who crossed the desert. This time I remembered to take a photo of the real thing.

Bought fuel here ~$2.70 per litre.

We splashed out and had a powered site. This is the full moon coming up over the cheap seats down by the water edge.

More moon shots in the Birdsville gallery.
