Coloured Sands

We chose not to walk the 2 km from camp but drive and then walk the 300m along the beach to the coloured sands.

Coloured Sands

Not everyone who drives on to the beach drives off.

Heading along Battle Camp Road towards Lakefield National Park.

Easy to miss these falls are just below a concrete causeway on the road.

Kalpowar Crossing

We camped on the high banks above this crossing.

Kalpowar

Both Roderick and I flicked a lure in here without success. Did see some fish though. Archer fish, Long Tom, Catfish, Sooty Grunter..

Early morning reflections.

Kalpowar

This fellow was down by the river.

Kalpowar Cape Melville, Bathurst Head.

We went across the crossing. Roderick in particular was hoping to get to either Bathurst Head or Cape Melville. We found the road to Bathurst Head to be locked and we did follow this sign to Cape Melville National Park to find it was also closed. The sign at the entrance clearly stating no vehicular access.

Starke Track to Cooktown

We had lunch here at the junction with the Starke track heading to Cooktown.

I am not sure what sort or buildings were once here. High tower for a water tank, some concrete flooring, a tractor designed for cultivation and over yonder a set of yards including a plunge dip.

Kalpowar Nature Walk

We were leaving today so I didn't have time to complete the complete nature walk at camp.

Kalpowar to Musgrave.

We travelled from Kalpowar through the top of Lakefield National Park stopping to have a look at both white and red lagoons.

There is nothing ambiguous about the signage at Musgrave.

The building in the background is from the days when Musgrave was a telegraph station.

We shouted ourselves to a burger for lunch made a change from sandwiches.

Musgrave Road House

Do you think the cattle are used to having people around?

Camping at Coen.

Almost everyone crossed the river and  camped on the river bed. Is it too soon to mention bogging Roderick?

Camping at Coen

We chose to stay on the high side.

Old Archer Crossing.

Clifford had to breath in and shrink down to get into our booked campsite at the Old Archer River Crossing.

Old Archer Crossing

I am not sure just where the old crossing was but the river here is shallow all the way across with a sandy bottom.

Old Archer Crossing

Even though the water was shallow and clear we heeded the crocodile warning signs and stayed out of the water.

Twin Lagoons.

On the way out we had a look at the other camping spots. This is one of he lagoons at Twin Lagoons.

Every thing is bigger in North Queensland.
