Maaroom

Driving from Tin Can Bay to Maaroom we intended to have an explore of the small villages/locations along the way. Tinnabar, Tawan, Poona, Boonooroo.

I wasn't surprised to find that Tawan was a location and not a village but was disappointed to find that Esplanade Road marked on Hema Maps did not exist. This photo is as close as we got to the beach.

Great Sandy Straits.

Well the great Sandy Straits are not just sand, there are quite significant areas of mud and mangroves.

The tide is in this morning.

Is this the ideal beach shack?

Dickabram Bridge

Driving the backroads from Maryborough we had lunch at the Dickabram Bridge across the Mary River. It is unusual in that it has a single rail track and single road on the one deck.

Kilkivan Free Camp

We had planned to stay at the Kilkivan Bush Camp just outside Kilkivan - fortunately I rang before we drove in to find the camp is closed all February. We stayed here at the Free Camp in Kilkivan behind the RSL and near the old rail station.

Monto

Well we hadn't planned to stay overnight in Monto. We were going up to see Roderick, Jodelle and Clara in Bilo. Problem Clara had a temp and other kids at Daycare had tested positive to COVID. Clara's Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) this afternoon was positive 🙁 . This meant they all had to isolate and we turned around and headed back.

Did get some nice shots of the Murals in Monto in the morning before we set off.

Monto

You know how we never win anything.

It was Friday night and we walked across the road to the pub for tea. The local netball club was selling raffle tickets and yes we won a meat tray 🙂

Blaze Aid Woolooga Camp.

We couldn't visit Roderick, Jodelle, and Clara so we went into the Woolooga Blaze Aid Camp a little early.

The Woolooga Camp is set up on Brooyar Station. They were mustering for a couple days we were there and Ann had a good view from the kitchen.

Woolooga Blaze Aid

Blaze Aid is active in Woolooga after the flooding, clearing and reinstating washed away fences. Unlike other areas that have just experienced their first flood since 2011, this area along with Gympie and Maryborough are recovering from the second flood this year.

Woolooga Blaze Aid Camp

Start of happy hour.

Ann was adamant that while happy to help in the kitchen she didn't want the responsibility or stress of running the kitchen - yep you guessed it she ended up running the kitchen. While Ann did a great job and everybody was well fed every day it was stressful.
