Table Cape Lighthouse

Table Cape

We have seen quite a few fields of ripening poppies since we have been here.

Hall Point at Sulphur Creek beach.

The yellow lichen on the rocks in the morning light.

Another nice free camp site. There are Fairy or Little penguin nesting boxes amongst the bush here. We had a look at sunset but didn't spot any penguins coming ashore.

Sulphur Creek Beach.

As in this shot the rail runs just above the high tide mark along a lot of this coast line. We didn't see any passenger trains but surely this would be a successful tourist train.

The Penguin colony Stanley

It was cold - yes I know it is summer but the wind was cold.

The volunteer ranger was warning us that it was late in the season and with the near full moon there could be no birds.

We were rewarded for our wait with about 20 little penguins coming ashore.

Little Penguin

Apparently they are now called Little Penguins in preference to Fairy Penguins.

Little Penguin

Even with the moon it was very dark by the time the penguins started coming ashore. While these photos are not great they are a lot better than I was expecting.

Little Penguin

This is a parent bird who has just fed the two chicks in the back ground. It has been using the manmade nesting box there.

Trowutta Arch

First stop was Trowutta arch. The arch is between two sink holes. Water moving through the limestone dissolves it and carries it away forming an underground cavern. When the cavern collapses it forms a sink hole. In this case there are two sink holes close together.
