Bruny Island

Managed to get a cancellation at a dentist in New Norfolk. Tooth has a temporary filling. I have some antibotics. Shopping is done and before you know it we are on the Bruny Island ferry - completely unplanned.

Bruny Cruise

We booked to do the Bruny Island Cruise. Follow the yellow boat road. Those Yammys should push us along.

Bruny Cruise

Cave 1 and Cave 2. Our firs look at the Dolerite Cliffs for this cruise.

Bruny Cruise

The Monument. Rumour is that there are 2 1 dollar coins on the top. It has been climbed twice and each time the person left a dollar up there.

Bruny Cruise

On the cruise you certainly get close enough to the cliff formations. Usually too close for me and my 70 200 lens.

Bruny Cruise

The top of an under sea cave that acts as a blow hole with the waves.

Bruny Cruise

Even closer.  The boat does go close enough to that the people up the front are threatened with a shower.

Bruny Cruise

Cockatoo Cave. Should that be Biloela Cave.

Bruny Cruise

Black Faced Cormarants

Bruny Cruise

While not through the cave/tunnel we drove into this cave and backed out then did the same in reverse so those at the back of the boat could get a view/photo. The skipper was pretty good in that regard ensuring that everybody in the boat front back left right had a chance to see things.

Bruny Cruise

Australian fur seals. These are all males.

Australian fur seals.

Bruny Cruise

Not far away are the Kiwis. I didn't quite catch the talk but I think these used to be called the New Zealand fur seal but are now called the long nosed fur seal.

Long Nosed Fur Seal.

Bruny Cruise

Long Nosed Fur Seal. There were also a lot of these swimming but I could grab a shot.

Bruny Cruise

Lets call it Bridge Rock.

Bruny Cruise

Some bull kelp in the surf zone.

Bruny Cruise

Time to head for home. I was really impressed with the way both the boat and the skipper handled the contditions. We were punching into a choppy sea all the way home.

Bruny Island - The Neck

North and South Bruny are connected by the neck. We camped at the national park campground at the southern end of the neck.

This shot is taken close to sunset from the Truganini Memorial lookout.

The Neck

Looking north from the lookout. Note the holes in the foreground little penguin burrows?

Bruny Island - The Neck

We didn't wait to see if there were any little penguins coming ashore.

Bruny Island - Cape Bruny Light House

We are camped at the Jetty Beach campground. Not far from the light house precinct I rode my bike up in the morning. Naturally I took my iPhone camera.

I took a tour up the internal stairs to the top of the light house. This is looking up into the fresnel lens of the light.

Bruny Island - Cape Bruny Light House

Looking down from the light house. Spot Ann under the hat. She is talking to a couple from Queensland who are volunteering at the light house.

The small white structure on the hill to the left is the current solar powered light house. It does the job of the old one completely unmanned. It doesn't have the same character though.

Bruny Island - Cape Bruny Light House

How many of us remember a phone like this? We were warned not to turn the handle as it is still operational and will ring down at the keepers house.

Bruny Island - Cape Bruny Light House

Back down on the ground. Can't do this sun flare trick with my iPhone.

Some Bull Kelp on Light House Beach.

Bruny Island - Fluted Cape walk.

The walk follows the bay around to grassy point where there was a whaling station and then heads up to the top of this cape.

Bruny Island - Fluted Cape walk.

The whalers are long gone but the wallabies are still here. No white ones.

Bruny Island - Fluted Cape walk.

The dolerite cliffs are very sheer and spectacular.

Bruny Island -Jetty Beach.

Not much left but this is the jetty that used to supply the Cape Bruny Lighthouse. Giving the beach and the campground its current name.

Bruny Island - Jetty Beach

There are two walks starting at the camp ground I did the shorter of the two - Luggaboine.

Bruny Island - Jetty Beach.

I took my macro lens with me. This is a lichen that doesn't just grow flat and hug the rock.

Bruny Island - Jetty Beach

This Banksia was just outside our door at the campground.
